Annual Garage Sale

We have been trying to plan our annual garage sale this year. However, every date I picked something came up and we rescheduled. The stuff has been in the garage for 2 months and taking up too much space it need to go. Dave was ready to donate it but the kids begged to have the sale. This weekend was the last open Saturday until May with soccer season starting next weekend. I was afraid that something would come up again so I placed ads on Craig's List & KSL.com. Dave told us that the signage rules had changed so no signs went up.

We put out all the stuff and WOW!!! who knew we had so much stuff!!! The first ladies showed up with flashlights to check out the goods. They walked away with a fancy dish and vase. The normal early birds from Colorado City were no shows so this might be a bust.

Ryder woke up and promptly came out to finish organizing and putting his touch and pricing on things. He is definitley Dave's Son.
Reganne came out to join us in her pajamas and blanket to guard the money box.

Let's build the race track and maybe somebody will buy it.

No Reganne, do it this way!!

It was a slow morning with cars slowly driving by. Note to self Toys are not a hot item. We gave away a free toy to each child that came.

The sale was officially over at 10:00 but with straglers we weren't finished until 11:00. Even for a bad day without advertising in the newspaper we still made over $80. There is even enough stuff to make a good donation to charity.

So much for a quiet Saturday. No rest for the busy or is that the wicked???

Spring Break 2012...Dave's Project

This year Dave took vacation during Spring Break Week. He had big plans each day of what he wanted to accomplish. I had to remind him that the girls would be home and may demand part of his time. So he revised his plans to only one main project remodeling the Theater Room to add a mini kitchen to the room. Each day he worked hard to keep on track with all the distractions from the girls, lunch, car problems, trips to the stores for supplies, and movie time with the kids.
Friday I arrived home from work to a white cloud that over took the house. There was white dust everywhere. The culprit...Sheet Rock Dust. This is the worst dust ever invented. It gets in your eyes, nose, hair, furniture, clothes, and worst of all your mouth.

What a surprise when I found these pictures on the camera. Is it ghost, sheet rock monster, or an alien???

You decide....
Dave worked really hard and the white cloud is slowly receeding and in it's place is a little nook that is taking shape into a new cool area in the basement.

More pictures to follow of the actual project as it proceeds.

Spring Break 2012...Day 2 Air Show

The second day of the air show was on Sunday and the weather was supposed to be horrible. The morning dawned with beautiful blue skies without a cloud to be seen. During sacrament meeting the skies started to rumble once again. The high council speaker promptly replied that it was the Lord confirming to us to stick to the doctern of the church and not get caught up with what the world says.

We made it home just in time for the Blue Angels to start their portion of the show. The clouds had rolled in and the temperature had dropped.

Again it was amazing to watch. The different angle gave new perspective on what they were doing.

As we sat on the patio to watch the clouds started rolling closer until it started to snow those little hard pellets.

The air show was over but Mother Nature's show had just began with rain, snow, and sleet.

It was a wonderful weekend and I am sad to see these wonderful machines leave our area and return to Florida. It also made us proud to be American's and support the men and women that protect our freedom. The most amazing thing is that they are volunteers working, learning, and training to entertain us. Most of all be able to protect us if the need arises.

Ryder has been playing Blue Angels and want to be a pilot and fly one of those planes someday.

Spring Break is over and tomorrow is another school day.

Spring Break 2012...Thunder Over Dixie

Saturday finally arrived Ryder woke up first asking if the air show was today. Yes, I replied. Yay!!! and he promptly got ready for the day. After watching so many weather reports all week and worring about rain and wind. The day looked like a normal spring Saturday Morning with clouds and sunshine. Gates opened at 8:00 with the show opening at 9:00. We left our house and made it into the show by 9:45. Traffic was crazy but the city was well prepared this time around. We were off to see the displayes until the shows started at 11:30.

WOW!! this is a big cargo plane.

What movie is this from. We felt like cattle being herded inside.

The kids by the Sick Helicopter.

Waiting for the show to start.

Bounce houses for the kids to enjoy. Luckily they had an all day pass for $10 per kid instead of paying $3 per time. This was Rylee's favorite place to be.

Time for the pilots to board their planes.

The best seat in the house + headphones to muffle the roar of the engines.

This hurts my ears...Even with earplugs.

Did you see that trick?

It was a great day and an awesome show. However, no time to linger the winds started to blow and the sand started to fly. Everyone scattered to their cars and thus began the mass exodus from the airport. After about 1/2 hour of waiting in a crowed parking lot volunteers showed up and started directing traffic. We were guided down the backside of the airport on the runway. I told the kids this was a one time only event. We would never ride down this runway again in cars. They were every efficient and we were home in about another 1/2 hour home with a quick stop at Little Ceasar's for pizza.

Spring Break...Blue Angels

Thursday afternoon the Blue Angels arrived in St George for the weekend air show. They didn't arrive quietly but with full throttle ahead. Since we leave under 5 miles from the airport we were able to experience it like nothing you could ever image. Maybe you could if you lived near an military base. They flew low enough during their warm ups you could read the side of the plane. As I ate lunch at the kitchen table they rattled the windows and picture frames. But oh what a wonderful noise to hear.

Dress rehearsel was Friday and again they rumbling began. Dave was home on vacation and tried to capture the experience, but the pictures don't do it justice.

How amazing it was to watch this and the whole town was a buzz with what everyone saw or felt. The airshow is going to be great if this was anything to judge by.

Our Nocturnal Visitor

Thursday was a quiet night everyone was exhausted from a busy day full of activities during Spring Break. We were all in bed and asleep by 10:30. 12:30 arrives with a visit from Rylee beside my bed telling us that there was a cat in her bed. I was mostly asleep and referred the problem to Dave. I promptly fell back to sleep (a wonderful trick I have learned this past year).

The next thing I hear is Dave coming back into the bedroom turning the lights on as he searches for his shoes. Telling me to get up and help get a cat outside. I rolled out of bed and went downstairs. I was greeted by the sight of Rylee standing in the hallway with the broom in her hand held like a bat ready to swing. Dave has his shoes on and lifts up one end of the couch in the theater room and out comes a black cat who heads straight for the open patio door.

We head back to our beds for what is left of the night.

The next morning I go to wake Rylee up and she is not in her bed. She moved to Reganne's bed to get away from any more visitors. I promptly asked her what happened last night.

"I heard meowing in my room, but I was too tired to get up and look. I thought it was from the radio. The next thing I feel something brush my arm and start purring. I jumped out of bed and turned the light on. There was a black cat sitting on my bed. It was scared from the light and quickly ran out of my room to Grandma's Room. That is when I came and got you and Dad.

The cat rather than run outside at the first sight of brooms and people yelling to leave promptly ran under the couch.

Moral of the story don't leave your patio door open while you are working. Then don't close your bedroom doors and trap uninvited visitors inside.

New Kitchen Skill...Vegetable Peeler

The kids have become fascinated by what I am doing in the kitchen. I am either starving them, killing them with what I cook, or they are just plain interested in learning. All three have become fascinated by the vegetable peeler. I only have one and I need to have three so each can have their own to use. The girls tried potatoes for hash browns. Ryder tried a cucumber for salad.

Check me out!

I can to do it!!!

I remember learning this particular skill, but I was much older before I could successfully peel a potatoe. My next shopping trip is going to include 3 peelers so they can practice this useful skill.

Spring Break 2012...Brigham Youngs Winter Home

It's Spring Break for Washington County School District. This year Dave is taking the week off to work on the basement and spend time with us on the weekend. After living here for almost 18 years we have never been to the historical homes downtown. Rylee went last year with her class. Saturday was the perfect day to spend a little time going back into history. However, we didn't plan for a group of 50 youth to show up at the same time. So we broke up into three groups for the tour. This house is very similar to Brigham Young's other houses.

The Front Porch

A small gazebo in the yard

This tree was struck by lightening back in 1970. They doctored it and it lives on.

Our Tour Guide Sis. Sporl from Brazil. Her English was perfect you would never guess she wasn't a native of Utah.

This was a fun stop for Spring Break. What is planned next??

Happy St Patrick's Day

It's hard to believe it's March already where did the last two months go? Our week started out warm and sunny. Then turned cold and snowy on Wednesday. Then back to warm and sunny on Friday. Rylee & Reganne noticed the big white fluffy snowflakes on Wednesday morning. It's March Mom it's not supposed to snow. My reply is welcome to Spring in St George the weather can change quickly and surprise us all. Just be prepared.

The Valentine hearts, treats, and decorations all were put away. Time for the green decorations to come out. Wait a minute!! we don't really have anything except our Little Lucky Charms Lepercaun to put up for St Patrick's Day. Off to Michaels we went to find something or anything to add.

We found green lepercaun decals to put on the door. Cupcake holders, and lepercaun hat. Ryder fell in love with the hat and wants to play elf all the time.

Our little elf or lepercaun
Rylee our little bigger Elf.

Elf Ryder with his elf hat and sword

Reganne was to busy to play with the hat or get her picture taken. It's kind of fun getting new decorations for each holiday and having fun.

I'm A Flower

This month in preschool they are learning about gardens and how things grow. They have had alot of fun activities. Tuesday Ryder came home with a really cool project. I asked him what it was and he had to show me instead. I'm a flower!!! My hat and head is the flower. My body is the stem and my hands are the petals.

My Little Sunflower

A goofy grinned flower.

He was so proud of his project that he had to show Dad when he came home.

They also planted grass in little containers and were watching it start to grow. Every morning when I drop him off we have to check on them and make sure they are still growing. I am thankful for teachers that take their time each day to help the kids learn and well as have fun.

New Pet?

Reganne has a new student teacher Mrs. Gooch. This week she taught about bugs and brought in crickets for the kids to observe. They learned about how to tell a boy from a girl, what they eat, and finally what they do at night. Reganne of course facinated by all bugs was eager to ask if she could bring one home. Mrs. Gooch told her and the other kids if they wanted one they needed a note from their moms with the ok. From the time school let out for the day Reganne began to ask for permission.

And asked, and asked, and asked again. She repeatedly gave me all the facts about them. Then she started another method on how she would take care of it. She would walk, play, and feed it every day. I reminded her that it was a bug and they don't belong in the house. That is fine it can stay outside.

Finally just to get some peace and quite I said yes. But it must stay outside. She went to work getting a house ready for it. So much for sleeping.

Reganne & Crystal the Cricket

Crystal the Cricket in her new home.

Update the cricket it still alive and has taken up residence in Reganne's room since it is to cold outside. She also asked for cricket food. Where do we get that I asked? At Petco where we get the fish food.

I am terrified of what type of pet will be next.

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss

Every year different stores celebrate Dr Seuss' Birthday. Friday all the kids at school could bring blankets or pillows for a read-a-thon in their classes. When school let out for the day there were Cat in the Hat Hats running around the school yard. The kids were ready to celebrate again on Saturday. The new Learning Express Store downtown was having a party. I invisioned reading stories, coloring pictures, and treats. This party instead had make Lorax Hats, Tree Making, playing with goo, and exploring the store. Kids loved the hands on approach.

Making Lorax Trees

Playing with Goo... Food Coloring, Cornstarch, and Waters

Exploring the Store....Cool Toys

More melting goo.

It was a fun activity full of new things to see and do. Time to finish our chores and get ready for play dates.
