Holy Cow...Fire!!

Friday Night as it was getting dark lightening stricked not too far away (under 15 miles) on the Arizona Strip. The hills came alive with flames and smoke. Saturday night was aglow with fire moving quickly down the hill. We decided to take a drive down River Road and check how close it was to the road. As we hit the Arizona Border the campfire smell was pretty overwhelming. Dave being adventurous took off down the dirt road to see how close we could get. 1/2 mile later fire trucks started towards us coming off the mountain. We decided it was better to turn around and go towards home if everyone was leaving.

These pictures are not the best, but we were under 5 miles away from the fire on the side of the road going towards the airport.

Good news this morning the fire is under controll and has mostly burned itself out.

We had the same crazy lightening storms here almost every evening last week. One night we thought we'd see something on fire for how crazy the sky was lighting up and how close it was to our house. Good thing it was under control so quickly!

Unfortunately the fires out here are not caused by lightening but by humans. Once everything gets dry it's really easy to have a fire. On Saturday we saw the flames from one from several miles away. Thank goodness it was up in the hills away from people.
