Exploring Close to Home

It was the end of the week time to head up North to take Morgan home and celebrate the 4th of July. Another road trip calls for more exploring.  This time we stopped in Fillmore at the Territorial State Museum.  First it was time for lunch and we must get a taste of the local fair.  However, we don't recommend "Garden of Eatin" at one of local motels.  The service was really slow and the food wasn't good either.  We had 3 hours to explore before it closed for the night.

Girls posing under protest.

The creepy hallway.
This reminded us the Haunted Mansion @ Disneyland.
It was actually pioneer pictures of Fillmore residents.

Replica of a jail room.
This is one of the uses this building was used for.
It was the State house, a prison, a school, and a hiding place for the Deseret News printing press.

The upstairs
Watching video clips about the construction of the building.

Catching a breath of cool air.
This building doesn't have air conditioning.
All the windows upstairs were open trying to catch a breeze.

The kids weren't impressed in fact they thought it was really creepy inside.  I loved walking around reading the different descriptions in each room.  It is always amazing to learn more about the amazing people that settled this state under such harsh conditions.  Hopefully someday the kids will appreciate it too.

Time to hit the road for more adventures.
