2012 Spring Soccer...Season Opener

After waiting for many months to play soccer the big day arrived. As the day drew closer the nerves set in and Ryder decided he didn't want to play after all. He didn't know how to kick the ball, how to throw it, and what did the whistle mean. Dave tried to practice with him and the tears started to flow. I wasn't sure how this was going to work. We set off for the fields with treats for his team.

We finally found the right team. Hard to do with 11 other teams of 4-5 year old boys running around. Mix this with parents, grandparents, and various other adults trying to get organized for the season opener. We found our coach and team. Ryder ran off and refused to come any closer. The trick came in getting him into his uniform.

I tried it on... I still don't want to play.

Look I am out here.

He finally came out on the field if Mom came along. Good thing the coach is a good sport and invited me along to help.

Which goal is ours?

He finally started having fun and played a whole five minutes.

I can run after the ball.

Is it over? When is our next game?

Success!! He enjoyed playing and can't wait for the next game. He promptly told me that they weren't playing next week since his coach is out of town (Easter Weekend)

They named their team the Blue (Angel) Jets.

What do you get with Sunshine + Exercise + Grandma = One pooped little boy.
